It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, so, sorry about that. Some news to pass along, somewhat late in delivery. I’m working on a short story that will be part of a new anthology for The Dryden Experiment. This is new territory for me, since it’s the first time I’m writing something for an anthology. New experiences are good, right, because they’re a necessary part of growing and building upon the foundation I’ve set up for myself? Yeah, definitely–but they’re also kind of scary.
I’m trying to focus on the immediate goal, which is to write the story, and not let everything else overwhelm me. This is a good opportunity for me, and I want to make the most of it. So far, I’m enjoying it.
What is The Dryden Experiment? From the website: “An unbounded Science Fiction Universe available under Creative Commons 4.0 BY-SA for development by authors, artists, game designers, and other creatives.” In other words, it’s a big playground for science-fiction writers to jump into, full of all sorts of shiny bits that can be assembled into stories. The creator of this wonderful setting is Joel Stottlemire, and he’s got an immense level of passion for this project. It’s been fun working with him and everyone else involved in this new anthology.
So, what’s the deal with the anthology, and what is the story I’m writing? The collection is called Rise of the Europan, and it’s going to feature stories by several authors, all dealing with the events surrounding one of the biggest moments in the timeline of the Dryden’s history: a being known as the Europan takes action against the human population that has colonized its home, rising up from the depths and beginning a massive war against the forces of humanity across the universe. My contribution is “The Battle of Europa”, and it tells the story of the desperate fight which erupts between the Europan and the Geist Marines, an army of elite soldiers under the command of Terra Corporation. I’ll be writing another post about it, hopefully soon, to tell you more.
Anyway, that should give you some idea of what I’m up to. Of course, I haven’t stopped working on my other stories. They’re still in development, albeit at a much slower pace than I’d like due to all manner of random shit that pops up during the course of life.
I’ve really got to keep up with this blog more. There’s a ton of other stuff I’d like to talk about, but I’m not going to attempt to cram it all into this one post. With any luck, I’ll be back on here shortly.
